Chef LeeZ Google Web designer GWD interstitial Ad as a home page!

Chef LeeZ has been publishing blogs on their experience and found work a-rounds since the launch of Google Web Designer GWD. These can be found at Chef LeeZ Blogger Posts.  This is our 4th web site to have been built using GWD.
Today we write about use of a Google Web Designer – GWD – interstitial ad as an index (HOME) page for a web site.  Click here to visit the live test website.
We found we could create an “index.html Home page” in GWD interstitial Ads and use hyper linked text to navigate about the site. The only draw backs thus far are:
1)  Only on the first view and perhaps not necessarily on every first view does it download size adjusted for viewing on a mobile device (Galaxy Note, 5 inch screen, Android 4.1). Refreshes result in the page going full size.
2) When it is full size we are unable to move the page contents up or down or left or right as we can with a GWD HTML page.
3) The Thai Cooking School BKK  site was built 700 px wide desiring a left margin of 150px but we had to go with a left margin of zero and place the nav bar to the right side of the page as opposed to across the page to be able to see sufficient of our page to navigate and to be able to see the swipe images.
Verdict is .. Interstitial Ads as your home page are not, as yet, cross platform ...

Check out our next test, incorporating this page as an Ifram added to an otherwise empty GWD HTML page. Our money is on it works as logic says it will work as the previous test adding ads by way of Iframe is currently running successfully  (see related blogs & http://chefleez.com)?
Otherwise this Google Web Designer – GWD – interstitial ad functions as designed.

Chef LeeZ Google Web Designer - GWD - Interstitial Ad has Android Small Screen Display Problems.

221013 Chef LeeZ  published its website with the inclusion of our season's greeting interstitial 3 page ad as a header and found it to function on Chrome, I.E., Safari and on Galaxy 10.1 android o/s 4.0.4 but fails to function as designed on the 5 inch Galaxy Note, android o/s 4.1.

The very first test of the site it downloaded and re-sized to fit the small screen, the swipe pics worked and the go to the next page worked all worked as designed. However, on the second time through it skipped the second page and jumped directly to the 3rd page. Subsequent views of http://ChefLeeZ.com on the small screen it was difficult to get the pics to swipe and would not go to the second page. It also  failed to re-size to fit the screen but we were able to manually reduce it to fit. We also noticed the text on the right hand side of page two re-sized so as to not show all the last line of text.The final function failing was when we scrolled the web page content up the content slid up underneath the ad as opposed to sliding up the whole page including the ad.

P.S. ) This morning 251213 we have solved the disappearing page problem by shrinking the size of the tap areas and separating their position so as to not overlap.

Chef LeeZ - Google Web Designer - the Iframe work around

Chef LeeZ earlier test using Google Web Designer - GWD- their intertistial iframe option was that it failed to adjust the slide bars so as to enable seeing the entire object. It is, at this time, a logged bug!

Well here's something that works ... and demonstrates your ad needs to be designed to the size of the initial view port inside the slider bars .. then entice your visitor to the visit rest of Ad as voluntary user interaction.

This version of Chef LeeZ, ( http://www.cookingschoolsintl.com/chefleez/indexN1.html) is an unpublished site. It proves this code does work for both Chrome and I E.  Simply add the code between  the two the top <body> and teh final  <body> of the page code.

  <div style="position:fixed;top:0px;left:150px;width:150px;background-color:red;">
      <iframe width="150" height="100" ;="" seamless="" src="http://www.yourwebsite.com"></iframe>
    </div>
Let's break this down a little as we did two searches 1) for position code and 2) iframe code and melded them for you as follows for our example.  For yours you would put your src="URL" in place of ours

 <div style="position:fixed;top:0px;left:150px;width:150px;background-color:red;">
      <iframe width="150" height="100" ;="" seamless="" src="http://www.cookingschoolsintl.com/chefleez/Ads/Xmas2013/index.html"></iframe>
    </div>

Position: above, Top __ Left ##px, then the width which lets you set where on the page the iframe will sit as you will not see it render on your design page as anything more than a div box

The <iframe code defines the size of the container the iframe will be  width and height.

This proves Chef LeeZ first ad designs will not be effective in an iframe.

Chef LeeZ Google WEb Designer - GWD - One Page Ads Work Best!

Following the acknowledgement by GWD that interstitial ads do not currently re-size when taken into Android and that Android does not click event to first page from end page except to provide a flash of the first page and jumps into the end page it is best to make your ad a one page ad.

Chef LeeZ LOL (Laugh Out Loud)  Christmas Ad.

Chef LeeZ interstitial Christmas Ad has an Android BUG.

We built Chef LeeZ Christmas Ad using Google Web Designer - GWD - interstitial generic - 300 x250 special small so it would be visible on small phone screens as there is no re-sizing built into the GWD program and you need to think of what will be the smallest target screen to view the Ad. We selected 300 x 250 and the size appears to be fine and views fine.  Fewer pictures or smaller pictures will decrease the load time between  pages.

Here's the BUG... When you click the second page GO TO the next page icon it should return you to the first page. Instead it flashes the first page and immediately jumps back to the second page.

In the following Christmas ad there are two pages. The second page returns to the first page in all browsers checked except Android 4.1.

May you and yours have a safe and wondrous holiday season!

Chef LeeZ - Google Web Designer - GWD - Interstitial Video & Youtube Ad Test

Chef LeeZ, Trip Advisor Thailand, # 1 culinary arts Thai Cooking School Class -
 test of Google Web Designer GWD Interstitial Video (is so far we can not make it function) with the YouTube Ad results below:

http://www.cookingschoolsintl.com/chefleez/Ads/AdsInterDC/CLSGYlwCuryCrbVideo/index.html

We find it to appear to hang on hte first opening from inside Chrome but works in I.E..

We wait on the reports from our LTS's USA and Canada for how it works on their platforms.

This test used the default setting of 300 x 250 generic as previous tests found Intertistial Ads do not auto resize (shrink) for phone apps and are not swipable to view the whole Ad. This smaller size is in hopes it will be more universally functional.

We wanted to include a tap area to go to http://chefleez.com but found you can only create tap areas that are pages within the Ad and that's too bad.

We are unable to make the Interstitial video component to work so far.

Google Web Designer GWD Intertistial Gallery Works! How to speed up transition between pages?

Chef LeeZ Seonsons Greetings Google Web Designer - GWD -Intertistial Ad Version 5.  Works!

NOw have to solve the delay in going from page to page as it takes upwards of 15+ seconds to switch from page 1 to page two and then again to page 3 the first time you view the ad.

http://www.cookingschoolsintl.com/chefleez/Ads/AdsInterDC/CLSGRTG13V5/index.html

What we did in this version is replace the swipable galleries with 360 galleries and the 360 galleries work in both i.e and Chrome.  We tried both the swipabe gallery and the carousel gallery and both failed to change pictures in Chrome and had an elastic band attached to the pictures in I.E. snapping them back into place when the mouse button was released.

So it would appear that of the Google Web Designer GWD intetistial gallery options only the 360 gallery is functional cross platform.

Friday, December 13, 2013

Chef LeeZ season's Greeting Ad Version 4 overflow no longer shows the overflow text and works fine on I.E. (sometimes the swiped picture page 1 & 2 don't release when the mouse is release) works now except for Chrome where page 1 & 2 swipe-able carousel pictures do not swipe but the page 3, 360 degree picture frame, swipes perfectly.

We had to add the recommended code to the first page via  code view not the css style.

 overflow: hidden;

found this code about three code sets down in code view and  added   overflow: hidden; to bottom of this code
.gwd-page-wrapper {
        background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);
        position: absolute;
        -webkit-transform: translateZ(0px);
              }

so it now looks like this:

.gwd-page-wrapper {
        background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);
        position: absolute;
        -webkit-transform: translateZ(0px);
        overflow: hidden;
      }

and we get this

http://www.cookingschoolsintl.com/chefleez/Ads/AdsInterDC/CLSGrtg13v4/index.html

Now waiting for the fix for it to function on Chrome. We amy try using the 360 gallery on all pages and see if it works on all pages in Chome and I E as page 3 with a 360 gallery works on all versions.

Chef LeeZ - Google Web Designer GWD - Intertistial Iframe - Bug = Test Fails

Today Chef LeeZ cooking school tested Google Web Designer GWD > intertistial > component > Iframe and found it to fail!

Chef LeeZ built an interstitial > generic > ad > custom size >Iframe 450 wide x 400 h> and gave its>compnent Properties > the src: search string: >  http://chefleez.com. When viewed on live internet browser Chrome and I.E.the iframe showed only the portion of the page that fit into the frame size or in this case about half the web site width and 80 % of its height.

Logically we changed the components > Properties > overflow > to "scroll" and we did see scroll bars right and bottom and the same half a web site was in the iframe view.  Here's where the program has a bug and that is the scroll bars fail to measure the size of the input and fail to adjust the the scroll bar size (right and bottom) so as to be able to slide them to view all of the input site.  The program assigned scroll bars only allowed for 10% extra view left and down and needed perhaps 60% slide to view the whole page.

So until this is fixed .. Google Web Designer, GWD > component > I frame > is of no use to Chef LeeZ.

Dec 19th Chef LeeZ published a fix for this!  example below

Google Web Designer GWD Interstitial Chef LeeZ Season's Greetings Ad failures

This, Chef LeeZ Culinary Arts School - Season's Greetings, a Google Web Designer GWD  interstitial, Ad was built without access to the internet during its construction and thus it was previewed on the laptop browsers both Chrome and Internet Explorer without internet connection and all worked fine. So why the bugs when uploaded to the server and run while connected to the  internet?

When you view Chef LeeZ Cooking School - Season's Greetings - Ad do you get what I get, a non functional Ad?

1) I see the text outside the box drifting in and it should not be visible until its animating inside the box? Chrome and I.E.

2) The only click and drag pictures that works is the 3rd page on Chrome and for Internet Explorer the pics slide but they hang on as in they don't release at the next picture again the 3rd page works fine for me.
During its construction we ran into all the editing bugs we found while creating a GWD HTML Page and were able to apply the work a-rounds (see our blog on HTML Fixes and work a-rounds).

Components are easily installed if you remember to click and drag them to their position and then use the position and size options to locate and size them.  Our 3rd page actually includes two picture components as we wanted to have the fireworks animated gif as a separate functional picture from the carousel pictures and there is no insert picture option in interstitial Ad program.

The Tap area top left corner needs to sit at the top left corner of the containment box to be hyperlink then it can be sized by the position and size drop down options.

Gogle Web Designer "Intertestial" fails on publish to the web

Chef LeeZ has started a new interstitial site and have named the pages as they were created and it has opened functionally twice now as the first attempt where we renamed pages after saving would not preview when opened two days after creation.

Pictures on this version are by source link under image properties which eliminates content to the published  image folder. I named the first page index.htm with hope it will be read as the first page of a website.

This interstitial draft site has been published and upload to our web site host in two ways 1) uploaded the zip file and opened it for the seperate files index.html

and 2)uploaded the original file TCSGWD121213.htm lhttp://www.cookingschoolsintl.com/thaicookingschoolbkk/GWD%20Site/TCSGWD121213.html.

The result being 1) opens quickly but displays a blank page and 2) over 2 minutes failed to finished searching thus failed to display any info.  It would appear intertestial is a total waste of time.

We wait on help from the Google experts before we proceed with further experimentation with Google Web Designer "Interetestial" as it appears one can not create an index.html page and therefore it can not function as a website.
